In response to the recent announcement by the International Skydiving Commission of the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale that it has postponed the 2020 FAI Mondial World Championships (Mondial 2020) to August 7-20, 2021, the USPA Competition Committee, chaired by Kirk Verner, discussed via conference call the criteria that it will use to select qualified competitors to attend the competition. The committee unanimously decided, after discussing the situation with current and former U.S. Parachute Team members from all disciplines, that the current team, based on the results of the 2019 USPA National Championships, will remain intact and will represent the USA and USPA at the rescheduled Mondial 2020. After much discussion and hearing from both sides, the committee also made decisions regarding competitors who had declined their slots originally but are now able to attend: If another competitor already accepted the offer of the slot, then that competitor will retain the slot and the declining competitor will be placed at the top of the waiting list in the order of placement in their event at the 2019 USPA National Championships.
USPA feels as though this will give our USA delegation peace of mind with regard to the 2020 competition season, while allowing them more than ample time to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, train and compete at the highest level.
