Arizona Promotes MFS With Scrambles

On February 17, Skydive Arizona in Eloy hosted a mixed formation skydiving scrambles meet, which paired participants with a new partner in each of the five rounds. The competitors and videographers (supported by the drop zone and a small registration fee) met bright and early, though unusual fogginess delayed the start of the meet. However, this allowed everyone to engineer their dives while waiting for the eventual bright blue skies.

After the last load, when competitors were met with cups of beer, everyone gathered at the Bent Prop Saloon and Cookery for the awards ceremony as jump videos played on the big screen. Success depended partly on skill and partly on good fortune. Veteran competitor Wade Baird placed first, Andy Locke came in second, and Tom Feng placed third. In addition, Craig Amrine, the videographer with the best framing, received the Judge’s Choice Award. Although competitors thought the event was just for bragging rights, the jumpers on the podium received a surprise: goodie bags with Bent Prop and SkyVenture Arizona gift certificates, Skydive Arizona jump tickets and candy, which added even more sweetness to this fun event!
