Eloy Throws Busy Thanksgiving Boogie

George Hargis

Jumpers had a lot to be thankful for at Skydive Arizona in Eloy over the course of the Thanksgiving Boogie. The weather was perfect, and participants were able to jump from sunrise to sunset. Each morning, hot-air balloon pilot Cornelius van der Walt dropped skydivers during the gorgeous desert sunrise. On Thursday night, the Bent Prop Restaurant and Bar served up a delicious Thanksgiving feast. Saturday ended with a swoop-and-chug competition and entertainment by a live band.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday were busy with 46 skilled freeflyers making 14 jumps out of two planes during a head-up formation skydiving camp that Mike Carpenter, Amy Chmelecki, Sara Curtis and Steve Curtis organized to prepare for July’s world-record attempts. Other groups of skydivers kept the Skyvan busy, and 40 jumpers enjoyed a DC-3 load.
