Elsinore Hosts Annual Poker Run

Mary SantAngelo

Skydive Elsinore in California held its annual Poker Run—the only competition that brings together skydiving, poker playing and tequila drinking—on June 16. This year, the “June gloom” kept teams on the ground until the afternoon, so they were able to complete only four rounds of the 6-way formation skydiving competition. Then, everyone sat down for some serious poker playing. The judges gave out tequila penalty shots for infractions such as being a first-time event participant or complaining about a slot-switching dive.

In the combination poker and skydiving standings, Unprotected Six took first place, just two points ahead of Sweaty Coconuts. Third place team Liquor Point Poker Tail won the cash pot from the poker game and afterward bought pizza for the crowd. Fourth-place team Sofa King Cool did not do very well in the skydiving portion of the event but earned everyone’s respect for never giving up!
