I read your editor’s note in the March Parachutist (“Letters—Helmet Effectiveness”) about there being no standards for skydiving helmets and feel the need to make an observation. Surely, where an organization does not have knowledge about something, then usually it looks around to find someone who does. Motorcycle racers can come off their bikes at speeds of up to 200 miles per hour, and so their helmets are crucial for their survival. These helmets are all tested to readily available international standards.

Why not incorporate or adopt these standards given that to start from scratch will take inordinate amounts of time and money? We need impact-safe helmets now. For too long have we accepted helmets without question or examination as to their value in emergency situations.
