USPA Nationals season came to an end Thursday, September 27, at Skydive Sebastian in Florida, one day ahead of schedule. Sebastian hosted 10 days of canopy action for the 2018 USPA National Parachuting Championships, which included classic accuracy, canopy formation and canopy piloting.

The accuracy competitors were first up, with 19 competitors entered. Cheryl Stearns took the gold medal, marking the first time ever a woman has claimed the overall National Champion title. (The event used to have separate men’s and women’s categories and combined into a single category only a few years ago.) Makes No Sense took the team accuracy gold.

Next up was canopy formation, which faced some weather struggles but still completed most rounds. Dawgfathers took gold in 4-way sequential, and Elsinore Revolution won gold in both 4-way rotation and open 2-way sequential. Inline 2 won the 2-way pro-am sequential event. 

A total of 41 competitors entered the canopy piloting competition—28 in open and 13 in advanced. Perennial champion Curt Bartholomew again took the open-class overall gold, as well as gold in the distance and zone accuracy events. Greg Windmiller won gold in the speed event. In the advanced class, Jesse Weyher swept the medals, winning overall gold, as well as gold in all three individual events.
