Future Bright for Hawaii Skydiving

In 2020, USPA played a key role in saving Dillingham (Kawaihāpai) Airfield in Hawaii from closure. With the help of USPA’s Airport Access Defense Fund and the efforts of member Ben Devine and the Save Dillingham Airfield organization, this stunning site remained open for air sports, allowing skydivers to continue enjoying its views and unique experiences – but the long-term future of Dillingham was still unknown.

Today, we’re thrilled to announce that Dillingham Airfield has now secured a 50-year lease with the state of Hawaii and the U.S. Army, signed by Governor Josh Green! This agreement guarantees the airfield’s future, which supports local businesses and tourism and provides stability for the North Shore community of Oahu. The lease also includes plans for infrastructure improvements and expanded use, ensuring it remains a vibrant hub for aviation activities.

Thank you to everyone who supported this effort. USPA remains committed to supporting all our Group Member drop zones, ensuring they thrive and continue to offer safe flights to altitude for skydivers everywhere.

Members can continue to support efforts to keep airfields like Dillingham open to skydiving by donating to the Airport Access Defense Fund.

Together, we keep the skies open and safe!
