USPA Looking for Skydiver with Writing and Editing Skills

USPA is searching for an associate editor to work in the USPA Communications Department. This position reports to the director of communications and serves several different but related functions. Must have excellent writing and editing skills, be able to multi-task and provide excellent customer service. Must be able to initiate and build relationships with authors, photographers, parachute equipment manufacturers and other industry providers. This position offers excellent opportunities for advancement in the department. The primary job responsibilities are:

  1. Write print and digital content for Parachutist magazine, USPA websites and other USPA materials
  2. Perform copy editing and proofreading of own content and content of others
  3. Coordinate with graphic designer and secure production of USPA print materials requested by departments
  4. Maintain relationships with vendors that handle USPA products for sale (manuals, etc.), provide stock, collect payment and maintain accounts
  5. Develop in-house advertising for USPA (Safety Day, USPA Nationals, etc.)
  6. Assist with USPA’s print and digital advertising program, build relationships and maintain contacts with industry owners and sales representatives

Computer Skills: Must know Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Office. Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop and InDesign) and HTML are a plus.

The preferred candidate will have 4-year college degree in English, journalism, advertising or a related field. Basic knowledge of skydiving is highly desirable. Being a skydiver is a plus. 

The full-time position is located at USPA in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Remote work is not available for this position. Benefits include life and health (with vision and dental) insurance, paid leave and 401K eligibility. Salary ranges from $50,00-$55,000, depending on experience.
