PIA Recommends Safety Stand-Down for Jumps at or Above 18,000 Feet

On March 21, Parachute Industry Association President Roberto Montañez issued a recommendation for the parachute industry to conduct a safety stand-down for jumps above 17,999 feet mean sea level. PIA—which is not an investigatory or regulatory body—issued this high-altitude stand-down in order to give the PIA Technical Committee the ability to produce a best-practices document that will “provide a framework that will increase the safety of the activity and lower the rate of injuries and fatalities in the future.”

The full high-altitude stand-down press release is available here: https://www.pia.com/blog/high-altitude-safety-stand-down/?fbclid=IwAR02BhZnyRiGo1IjoyEL1AZj4ocW1HixQ9s0JkgxV17radHCP9Zwat4nTG0

Jumpers with questions about this recommendation should direct their inquiries to PIA directly at hq@pia.com.
