Mike Bohn—a competitor, owner of Skydive Orange Skies in Fort Morgan, Colorado, and full-time skydiver—has always dreamt of giving back to the community by hosting a Point Break Training event.  As you can imagine, the inspiration for this boogie came from the original movie “Point Break.” Most skydivers can recall fantasizing about a West Coast lifestyle of skydiving, surfing and robbing banks after the first time seeing the film. Even if bank robbing wasn’t of the highest interest, the surfing and skydiving lifestyle was!

Bohn based the Point Break Training boogie around skydiving and surfing, as well as the larger intention of living in the moment. The event included a five-night stay at the Mission Pacific Beach Resort in downtown Oceanside, California, and attendees enjoyed three days of surfing with a trusted local surf school, six hours of tunnel time at iFly Oceanside and two days of skydiving over the ocean at Go Jump America Oceanside. Waking up to a surf lesson on the beach, and then tunnel flying or skydiving (depending on the day ... what a week! Not only was the event idyllic, it was created with a safety-oriented mindset. Bohn also considered individual growth and progression: From beginner to expert, this boogie covered it all across every discipline.

The participants all told stories afterward of camaraderie and how it felt to share perfect, dreamlike days. Everyone’s answer to the question, “What does the Point Break lifestyle mean to you?” circled back to a single overlying theme: enjoying the time we have with each other and being present for every moment. The Point Break lifestyle means being in the middle of the hourglass, watching the sand from the future fall through the now. It’s these memories that will soften our fall when we drop with the last speck of sand.

Bohn is planning on hosting this event again next year. It is one-of-a-kind and a truly remarkable experience.
