Approximately two months after setting the Alabama State Record for Largest Horizontal Wingsuit Formation, the Wingsuit Ninjas flocked to Skydive Indianapolis in Frankfort, Indiana, during the second week of June to try their hand at another record.

Since early 2023, Wes Sandler and Michael Hoover, leaders of the Wingsuit Ninjas, have worked hard to form, grow and advance a solid team of flyers in the Midwest while traveling across the country claiming large-formation records. In fewer than two seasons, the team has achieved numerous records (including Parachutists Over Phorty Society records) in four states: Ohio, Michigan, Georgia and Alabama. The team even set and subsequently bested some records within the timeframe of a few hours.

On June 16, Indiana was the fifth state to join the teams’ wingsuit record list. Thirteen flyers planned and executed a gridded diamond formation after exiting a Caravan flown by Ted Ganger. Jeremy Tyer, the team’s videographer, beautifully captured the jump.

The record did not come easily or without challenges. The team faced quite a few barriers this time around including a tightly packed aircraft, long wait times between loads, high and unpredictable winds and aircraft maintenance. The Ninjas remained vigilant, persevered and were able to close out the final day of the weekend with their goal achieved. Sandler happily donned the traditional ramen sweatshirt that signifies success, and participants celebrated while enjoying photos and video of the jumps. The Ninjas then set off to plan for their next prospective state. Where to next?
